We tend to promote the best candidates. I'm not just saying that because I am one of them. They try to put the newer guys with the more senior Sgts to mentor. They turn out some excellent Sgt's. In fact they won't promote you to the next position if they don't think you can fill the position above that.

I wish it was that way here. If I am not there it doesn't get done. Not that they don't fill in for me when they can, they just aren't trained for my job nor am I trained for theirs.

If the new guys will watch and listen, they can learn a lot. Same in the Military, but unfortunately many second Lt's refuse to pay attention to their Senior Sgts.

I wish it was that way here. If I am not there it doesn't get done. Not that they don't fill in for me when they can, they just aren't trained for my job nor am I trained for theirs. I hear ya JJ! When I was in Japan, one year I had to work a week while I was on Leave! That was the only way I could get leave that time cause I was the only one that knew how to do a certain thing. It's kinda the pits to be on leave in Hawaii for a month and have to work a week (well actually 3 1/2 days and I was done). BUT the Col I worked for only charged me for 3 weeks leave time not the full 4 weeks.

Funny that this conversation comes up. One of the guys I rode with today is a good friend and probably the best Sgt I ever worked for. Great guy. I would have done darned near anything for him. The guy just made you want to work for him. I hope to be as good at motivating people as he was.

YUP, that's like the Col I worked for in Japan. I went in many times on my day off cause there was a problem that I had to work on. He took care of us.
