I'll venture a guess that 90% of the chopping that I do is on pine trees, clearing paths and keeping up the edges of my yard.

Around here we have walnut, oak, LOTS of oak, some ash, Hickory, Maple, Sassafras and a few others that I just can't remember. Oh and Cypress (at least at Mingo). And some cedar and Pine as well, but that is usually up in the hills. They for some reason seem to like the rockier/(poorer) soil.

Well, since that's about all we have here is rocky poor soil, I guess that explains that. My yard is so poor that I can barely grow grass.

yeah our yard isn't all that good at growing nice grass either, but our problem is it is VERY sandy. Won't hold the moisture and It would just cost to much to fertilize and water all the time.

My yard was, at one point, a garden for my great-grandfather. It was so rocky and poor that he quit farming it. Then it turned into a pine thicket, which I cut down to make my houseplace.

There are plenty of oaks out past me, but not on my property.

So you cleared the land and put a house up on it?

The ground is so rocky that I go through a set of mower blades a year just from hitting rocks. I could rake up a 5 gallon bucket a day and never get caught up, I don't believe.

So you cleared the land and put a house up on it? Yep, I spent a month working in the evenings and weekends running a chain saw cutting trees to get it ready to grade off.
