I've got legal claim to the property, after living on it for almost 15 years and making considerable improvements. BUT I'm afraid that'll take a lot of money to defend that claim if it comes to that.

You really really need to stress to them that it IS necessary, if for no other reason than to insure the taxes are paid correctly and on time before all three of you wind up loosing it.

Plus the hassle the other one or two of you would have to go through if something was to happen to one or two of you. The Government can find ways of taking it away if there is any kind of loophole at all, and the only way to keep that from happening is a will. heck Mom and Dad has a will and I am the only heir! that's just so the government can't get their foot in the door in any way shape or form.

I told my dad that if nothing else just do a handwritten will and get it notarized, that's a legal will in NC. Don't even have to involve a lawyer.

I'm working on them. I'm not worried about what I'll get, or what everyone gets. I'm worried about making it simple. I don't care if all I end up with is just my little piece of property that my house sits on. I just don't want any hard feelings.

I do understand Todd. If you can make your Dad understand that, maybe he will give in and do what unfortunately DOES need to be done.

One thing is for sure. Ain't none of us getting out of here alive. I've tried to make him understand that for years.

Sometimes our generations folks hold to the old ways, when things like this WERE done fairly be all those involved. Unfortunately folks of our generations began to be corrupted by the greed of Government and it has unfortunately filtered down until for many it is a way of life. I AM NOT criticizing your brother and sister, just making an observation on society at large.

When my grandmother on my mom's side died, my uncle went through the house and took a pile of antique jewelry before the other siblings were even notified that she died. Mom went to the estate sale and found a bunch of it there being sold off. She didn't speak to her brother again after that. He died about 10 years later, and none of the surviving brothers and sisters went to his funeral.

I don't want my family to end up like that.

I've seen that happen more than once. Some folks just never learned what sharing is all about.
