How well would a 556/223 supressor work on a 22lr round. I thought it would be nice having a one for two deal.

Any day I'm above the grass and I'm not a zombie is a good day! JYD#138

I would imagine it would work well. But, for me it isn't something I would pay the extra money for, for the same reason I reject the idea of putting the Sparrow on a Five Seven, which the Sparrow is rated for too. A Five Seven round is 40 grains as are some 22LR rounds. The advantage of a Five Seven and 5.56 is the shape of the round, full metal jacket and most importantly the velocity. For a suppressor to work well, you would have to slow the round down to 22LR speeds, subsonic. Just use a 22Lr in that case. Yes, a suppressor will quiet down a supersonic round's pop, but the ballistic crack will still be there.

22LR rounds don't break the sound barrier fired from my 22/45, but will when fired from a 10/22. A 22LR out of a rifle hits about 1200 fps. Sound is about 1125 fps, so there will be sonic boom unless you use subsonic ammo. But, that crack is nothing like a 5.56 crack.

GD a suppressed AR helps in telegraphing your position to your enemy out past your area of engagement but will not totally silence the weapon.

Exactly!

I am more about preserving my hearing than worrying about a the critters finding me.

My audiologist ordered this for my right ear last week.

I don't want her to have to order another one for my left ear, nor do I want to be walking around in the wilderness with ear plugs in. I like to hear my environment (read bears).

I bought a decent set of electronic muffs a few years ago and has been money well spent for shooting sports.

I have considered getting a set. I currently use a pair of earplugs and a pair of muffs simultaneously when not hunting.

Now they have more of a low profile for long guns the ones i have are more suited for handguns . both of the kids have their own set of Peletor muffs i won't let them shoot without them.

I think I have now watched every video online about the 10/22 Takedown and seen every photo. I am set on this gun.
