Glad to hear Patty has been doing well <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />. Math class has been quite challenging but I am still enjoying it.

When I was in highschool my brother and I would joke that we learned math to learn more about the devil and how to stay away from it haha.

Haha, it is highly beneficial to know your enemies! Haha. So I finally bought a strop. I hope it helps improve my edges a little more once it comes.

Be sure and load it with some sort of.. well what ever they call that stuff you put on strops.
I saw a video once where a guy used a SMALL amount of liquid material and then after letting that soak in used the stick. (Just go to JRE Industries and you will see some stropping material and stuff).

I bought one from kniveplus that they make, I guess they come pre loaded and are supposed to last for a long time. I just sharpen on the sharpmaker. I would like to learn free hand soon. Its just investing the stones and stuff.

When you are sharpening freehand, at least at first, find the angle YOU like. Keep your wrist locked. What you can do is mark the part you have sharp with a black magic marker. Vary the angle until you can remove all the black. That will be what you are looking for. After you have sharpened that way long enough, you can tell by the sound it makes and the feel as it slides across the sharpener if you have it right or not.

I have a decent idea of the stones I want ect. I have a bad time with wire edges on the sharpmaker. I started using a old leather belt to try stropping. I noticed a good improvement to my edges, so, I decided it was time for a strop.
