Strops are a good idea. I carry a piece of leather about 5x10 in my "Kit".
When I sharpen I start out with a Smith's coarse diamond hone (if the edge more than just a light touch up). When I get it to where I want it (I USUALLY don't go all the way to a wire edge) I switch to a coarse Spyderco Medium ceramic hone. If I am working on a blade of 7 inches or more this is usually where I stop. On small blades (and If I want a more refined edge on the larger blades) I go on to a DMT diafold (1x4 inch folding diamond hone) and finish off the edge to where I want it and then I will usually finish up stopping it on the leather for 20-50 licks a side.

It was already on it's way. It is the last one they get out of this production run they believe.

Check out the last part of this press release. It is good to have stock in Ruger
Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. Reports Strong First Quarter Bookings
March 21, 2012
Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR), announced today that for the first quarter 2012, the Company has received orders for more than one million units. Therefore, the Company has temporarily suspended the acceptance of new orders.
Chief Executive Officer Michael O. Fifer made the following comments:
The Company's Retailer Programs that were offered from January 1, 2012 through February 29, 2012 were very successful and generated significant orders from retailers to independent wholesale distributors for Ruger firearms.
Year-to-date, the independent wholesale distributors placed orders with the Company for more than one million Ruger firearms.
Despite the Company's continuing successful efforts to increase production rates, the incoming order rate exceeds our capacity to rapidly fulfill these orders. Consequently, the Company has temporarily suspended the acceptance of new orders.
The Company expects to resume the normal acceptance of orders by the end of May 2012.

Hey JJ, let us know if the bag has any padding between the two halfs. I mean between the pouch where the stock and receiver goes and the side where the barrel and forend goes. Looks like if there isn't any padding the pieces could bang together, not a good thing for a scoped receiver.

Well, my sergeant major just caught me looking at a video of the Takedown. He asked why I was watching it, and I told him because I have one waiting on me at the dealer. He sent me home for the day.
So ... breath my vapor trail.

JJ, as much time as you spend there, you should move in a fridge and a cot. You could act as a night watchman! Think of all the money you would save on rent!

The Company expects to resume the normal acceptance of orders by the end of May 2012. I am not generally a fan of Ruger firearms, but I am very happy to see an American firearms company doing well (sigh wishing for a Canadian one). However Ruger has been active in fighting for firearms owners rights and promoting the hunting sports. If I buy a new rifle in the next year, Ruger will be on the top of list due in part to their support of firearms owners (I know that Bill Ruger had issues with civilian ownership, but he is gone)
