The land nav instructor at sergeants course turn me on to it. He printed a base map of route and then a topo map on a clear plastic sheet for an overlay and had a separate satellite image map. Pretty freakin convenient and a cheap option to buying maps. The one I have made so far are better than the ones that came in my Utah almanac type book of maps for the area. .

I happen to have a plotter in my office too. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> It prints on photo quality rolls of paper 2'x100'

Its a nice service. I usually print out a topo. But a satellite map to go with it could come in handy.

I like being able to display a grid too. Makes it easy to use old school map skills if GPS fails.

I've got a set of USGS Topo maps of my area, but I never thought to overlay them with a satelitte shot. I'll remember that for when I'm in the back country again.

I going to print a base map of routes and terrain features in color as well as a satellite map at the same scale and use the topo overlay on both. The basic base map help reveal stuff hidden by the trees and such. Not sure I'll use it too much, but I figure I will practice my land nav skills this weekend. I don't usually stray far from familiar territory, not these days anyway. When I was younger I roamed all over these hills, but that's been a few years ago.

This just hit me. I am going rabbit hunting on Easter. Is there an Easter equivalent to the Grinch?
