I'm instructor of ASP telescopic baton,
I use your method but in Italy the tactical baton are illegal
for law enforcement.
Just a fixed one flexible enough around 60 cm, 25" They use the ASP here as well. Also a lot of departments are banning metal flashlights, to easy to use them around the head and neck area. Plastic flashlights it is thought would break before they could to any life threatening damage.

For a gun, law enforcement use a Beretta 92 FS The beretta is a a good gun, but the grip is to big for my short fat fingers to get the correct firing grip. I have to cant the grip to one side to get correct trigger finger placement.

I like a 45acp. I have 3. Colt 1911A1 full size, Sig P220, and a Springfield Armory V10 Ultra compact. But my favorite carry gun is my Sig P225 single stack magazine 9mm.
