there's a storm heading in. good opportunity to test out an ultralight bivy setup.

I love it. When the forecast calls for bad weather, most people would think to head indoors. Not this JYD.

I give you props, brother.

gotta make sure it'll work in bad weather. i'm substituting my old crummy blue bivy for the adventure medical heat sheets bivy i used in the light showers last night. it actually worked well, except i don't have a mosquito net and i got eaten up. i'm going to come up with a velcro attachment for that problem.

should i worry about lightning while i'm in that mylar bag?

I wouldn't worry about the Mylar. It is actually polyester with a vapor coat (extremely thin, like a few atoms thick) of aluminum. Aluminum in bulk is a very poor conductor anyway.

Just stay away from trees.

i bought three heat sheets products a few years ago, only ever used the thermo bivy 2. finally took the much smaller emergency bivy out of the stuff sack and i think i prefer it to my old nylon bivy.

think i'm gonna put grommets on the heat sheets blanket.

I have the same Bivy. The adventure medical SOL heat sheets bivy. I used it use while camping in the Rockies during fall. I figured it was September and couldn't get too cold, so I packed a small summer sleeping bag. Wasn't nearly enough, it dropped down to freezing at 9,000+ feet. I didn't think about the altitude or the latitude. The bivy made sleeping much easier. The sleeping bag was only rated to 32F. And we all know the ratings are lies.

i have used the thermo bivy in the cold in my hammock, which wasn't that great. i never got it wet, but i should try that too. it seems like more of a sleeping bag than a bivy bag.

I put the bivy in my bag. Worked well.
