No, however the family friend (I always called him uncle) had a small shop set up and did a little black smithing. Watched him do some repairs, make horse shoes and the like over the years

He was one of those guys that was born 100 years to late He taught my dad to hunt when he was young, and then later helped my dad teach us. He gave me my first shotgun (I still have it) and first pocket knife (sadly long lost) He could pick up and play any musical instrument, just one of those guys that you would be lucky to meet once in your life

I think it was amazing even to get to look a master in his work.
I'm making breakfast for me and the boys so my writing is little slow.

Here it's been warm this week, about 20C or so. I've been constantly testing my hammock... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I do miss him, real funny story about how I heard he passed away. The last couple of years of his life he had Alzheimer and his son lived in the house next to him. They lived up in the interior, very rural area. My uncle spent his last year or so in a small hospital in the nearest town.
My 2 brothers and I went up to that area hunting for 5 days and the plan was to stop by his son's house on day 3 (Saturday his day off) and stop by the hospital on the way home.
Our second day out there, I meet this guy in the woods that I never saw before. This was the middle of nowhere, he was surprised to see me as only the locals knew this area. I told him I grew up hunting this area, and when I mentioned my uncle's name, he got a look on his face and told me he passed away the night before. About 2 hours later we were at his son's place who was very relieved to see us because he could not find my dad's phone number anywhere.
It may sound odd but it was sort of fitting that we found out while doing something he loved and taught us to do in the area he loved the most

I'm truly sorry to say this Bill but my chatting time is over. Duty calls.
I really hope we could "get together" and talk like the old times.
All the best to you and your family. See you later.
