I was just reading a USA Today article where many states and the feds are considering on taxing how many miles you drive versus a gasoline tax. BUT as we all know it will be an additional tax ON TOP of the gas tax.

Any way, they had this side bar that Y'all might find interesting:

** The FEDERAL gasoline tax now is at 18.4 cents a gallon. This is of course ON TOP of what each individual state charges.

Gasoline taxes are not generating enough revenue to pay for roads and bridges. What each state charges in tax per gallon and its effective date:

• Ala., 18 cents, 1995
• Alaska, 8 cents, 2009
• Ariz., 18 cents, 2000

More layers of Govt. Now someone will need to monitor my odometer while I wait in yet another line. The funny part is, this is in no small part because of the government mandated fuel effeciency standards.

I already pay enough taxes at the pump. The numbers given do not reflect what my state has on the books including the feds. Last I looked it was either 45 or 48 cents a gallon with Fed and state taxes per gallon.

Mb I have a question. Streamlight TLR-1s or TLR-2s??? Is a laser worth the money? I have the same question posted in the outdoor section.

GD, I'm not MB, but as far as a laser, ask yourself some realistic (Vs I sure wish I had this new toy) questions.

Face facts. If you are not law enforcement and you shoot someone with a weapon that has a laser mounted on it the Defense lawyer(S) are gonna tear you up.

Well tell us Mr. GD, WHY do you feel it necessary to use a device that will not allow you to miss when you shot (killed) Mr Crook. Isn't it true that you wanted to make sure that Mr Crook would NOT STAND A CHANCE of you missing when you shot at him without cause. Hey, don't say it can't or wouldn't happen.

Second question is HOW OFTEN are you going to need to shoot your weapon in light dim enough that your normal night sights can not be seen (another "gottcha" by the defense).

You CAN get so dependant on them that you start using them instead of relying on your sights and using the laser as a verification device.

Now don't get me wrong, I would like a laser as well, but don't truly think one would be A NECESSARY requirement as it would only be used sparingly in a civilian setting.

Just my personal thoughts. Take them or leave them. It is YOUR decision based upon YOUR needs/requirements/wants, no one else's.

Thanks. I am trying to figure out if it is worth the money. I also thought it might be useful on my AR at night. The 4power acog is not the best CQB sight at night

GD in low light situations tritium night sights are good and fast. In NO light situations laser ain't gonna help you - first you must see your target. Laser sight may get you fixed finding the red spot.

My opinion is: invest your money to decent night sights and gun mounted light. Practice in low light and no light situations to point and shoot. This is practical if it is possible for you to defend your self with firearm.

I have tirijicon novak style sights on my g22. And the trijicon acogs are also self powered. I have a surefire g2 LED on my rifle but it is only 80 lumens

80 lumens is quite low power. You should consider getting more powerful light. You might want to pay attention to the angle of the light too. When you switch on your light you'll lose your night vision. Only thing you see is what's in your light. Trijicon sights should be good.

I use a 1200 lumen light. It's not gun mounted but you could attache it to a rifle.
