I would go with a revovler in 357 for both...if it turns out to be too much for either of you...you can shoot 38special safely in the 357. However, if you are set on the auto I would go with 9mm glock. This would give you higher capacity on a reliable platform. Glocks have 33% fewer moving parts when compared to comparable autos. Also, according to atf 65% of new hand gun sales are glocks, and many law enforcement agencies and officers carry glockds. But before you purchase you should go down to your local shop/range and see if they rent guns to shoot at their range. If they do you can practice with different calibers and platforms to help you make the right decision

Good advice on trying before you buy. As good as it feels in your hand when shopping, nothing takes the place of actually firing one before you decide to buy.

40s&w is my favorite pistol cal. Its got plenty of power lots of rounds in the mag. 40cal glocks are carried buy more law enforcement agencies than any other gun for a reason. And 9mm is carried by NYPD and LAPD after each did extensive testing. Modern JHP ammunition in either caliber is very capable for self-defense. okay two large PD use the 9mm. did they say why..... the US Marine Corp just made a several million dollar order with colt for the 45acp 1911. the military has tried to drop the 9mm for a while now. also will you always have quality JHP ammo on hand. shtf and you will use whats on hand. also the federal gov mada large no HUGE order with federal ammo for 40S&W. over all buy what YOU want but consider ALL options first. my thought is size and mag cap do matter.

Get a 22 and an upper from Tactical Solutions. Then drop in with a nice suppressor, and the fun will never end <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I glock so I'm going to recommend the G19 or G23. they are my favorites. not to big and not to small. they are reliable and just plain work. My other recommendation would be for the s/w m&p.

I like da/sa firearms way more than da only but I did pick up a shield a couple months ago. still no trigger time but have been extremely happy with the purchase so far. feel and features are perfect for what this gun is designed for. I was unable to find a gun like this even though there are a handful of guns that are in the same category.

Dad wanted a Shield but got an Springfield XDS and it is the best compact .45 acp I have ever shot--and that is a lot of them. After paying for the 911, will be getting the KD Hawk, and a 1311 I will be hoping for a fund for a XDS of my own. Carrying a full size 1911 in the summer in OK is bad, and the little .380 is better than nothing but not a .45 acp.

I have the shield 9 and about 500 rounds thru it. My EMP is still my favorite, but shield is very close behind
