Here's a preview of a small project to make the stock more grippy. I like the shape of the stock, but after some firing today, I felt it could use more grip. I went with the idea of football laces to get it done.

Looks nice JJ, and it should help out quite a bit.

Nice set up JJ. May I ask what model of Vortex scope you have there and if you like it. Been thinking about one for my 10-22.

I'm also thinking about not using the Weaver style dovetail mount and getting Williams Ironsighter mounts that mount directly to receiver. That way I can still use the Irons if the scope gets messed up. I'm only about 5 miles from Williams so I like to use their products when I can.

It is a Vortex Crossfire 2-7x32 Rimfire. I picked it up for under $100 and am pretty satisfied with it.

The glass is on par with more expensive models. I brought the Vortex and a Leupold into the parking lot to test them out before buying and couldn't tell a difference in clarity, at least in the daylight.

Not sure what else to say about it. I can keep dime sized groups at 50 yards with it.

Plus it has a Scrapyard style warranty and is made in the U.S.A.

I actually contemplated getting mounts that allowed me to see the iron sights as well. The only thing that stop me was the fact they hold the scope so much higher above the barrel. That causes the trajectory and the line of sight to so much different that the rifle is accurate in a shorter window. If you are just punching paper, it isn't important and you can always get a BDC reticle.

I figure I can just take the scope off if it fails and then use the iron sights.

Thanks JJ, I have a leupold on order but have heard a few good comments on the vortex line. I was thinking that mounting direct to receiver would help with that height variation a bit. It will be interesting to figure out where the trajectory of scope zero vs iron sights intersect.

Have you noticed any difference in point of impact between take down and re assembly. I was wondering about that since the scope is mounted to the receiver and the barrel is taken down and remounted again.

It returns to zero every time. If there is any change in the point of impact, I am not a good enough shot to notice. It is puts the rounds in the same hole I made before take down after reassembly.

I finished the wrap for my rifle and decided to play around with the camera again. Yeah, I know, I am addicted to toys.

As you can see, and possibly to Lazi's approval, I picked up two 25 round mags from my sergeant major. He let go of both for a promise to make a kydex sheath for a knife he is waiting on.

That really looks nice JJ. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> And congrats on the mags. I think you got a pretty good deal.

Hum.... about those D ring attachment points. How about using QD swivels that way you could just remove the strap easily and make for easier packing in the bag.

Thanks Randy. I like Kydex stuff, but working with leather is growing on me. I want to start mixing the two.
