SKS's are a good choice but the good ones are getting scarce and the price keeps going up. If you want something to shoot just for fun then try a Mosin Nagant. Both the rifles and the ammo are plentiful and cheap.

Hobbes, I agree. Over the years I have had more than my fair share. At one time before a sale off I had over 40 Mosins from 91's to 91/59, snipers, Finn, Spanish, you name it except a 1907 carbine. Now I have the 1938 non-import/ non-matching and my favorite M38 from 1944.

I've been trying to decide between a vz-58 and the sig 556R for a while now. I like the sig 556 I have, especially with the flat top for adding on sights, and the newest ones supposedly run great. On the other hand, from all I have heard/read on the VZ-58, it is supposed to be really sweet too. I really want to get a nice 7.62*39 platform sometime soon. why am I so attracted to this thing?
but I'm seriously thinking of trading my fiveseven out for a 7.62 rifle. not taking my own advice since I don't think I want a AK. looking at AR15's in 7.62x39. just can't find one i want...

okay so I did end up taking my own advice. took my fsn to a gun show and ended up with a milled reciever AK on order.

You can put a quality folding
Stock and other things on it to make a great all round rifle.

thanks greaser...
was a hard sideways move to make but I got my money back out the fsn and AK prices seem to be constantly going up. think I'll shoot the AK way more than the fsn and more bang for the buck... probably do green furniture, a linch left side charging handle, and few bulgy mags... hoping it'll be accurate enough go play with the hogs.

Cheaper ammo than .308. And now hornady is making some good rounds for it.
