DT, If, When you decide on a couple folders, I recommend Chris Reeve. I have two, the small sebenza (In my opinion the perfect size edc) and the Umnumzaan, a beast of a blade that will also fit a folding fighter role if ever needed. I have NEVER been disappointed with either one.

Thanks for the advice SH. I keep looking at those on the exchange thinking "I could buy a heckuva nice chopper for the price of one of these second hand". I can only hope they're worth it for the money

I have found my Ka-Bar brand, Short Ka-Bar is getting soft and is getting so it bends side to side a little. And I only use it for skinning and light work. And it doesn't hold a edge very well.

Are the issue knives for the Marine Corp still made by Ka-Bar or another brand? And do they issue them in leather or plastic sheaths.

Thank you for all the input everybody. As I suspected, this knife would get the nod by the senior dogs. The 911 is offically on my "need" list. I will feel confident the next time I have to pry open a "zombie pitbull's jaws" open. What a relief. Thanks for the opinions and laughs.

You could probabaly also google swamp rat battle rat tests/reviews and see what you find. The BR is one of the closest things to it I imagine. I love my BR! Sucker is a brute and has crazy edge retention. Plus, very lively in hand for a big blade.

Is the battle rat similar to a dog father?

The Marine Corps doesn't issue combat knives anymore except for the bayonet and folders. The bayonet is made by Ontario Knife Co. and is called the OKC3S. It comes with a kydex sheath from the factory. You usually get a choice of a Benchmade automatic folder or a Gerber Multitool when you deploy.

That said, most of us carry our favorite fixed blade when deployed.

The BR is smaller than the DF. I bring it up b/c it's the same steel as the 911...specs are probably in the ball park too.

The 9-11 should be closer to the BattleRat than it is to the DogFather.

Oh yeah, like that's what I do with a chopper, put it in a vise with a cheater bar and see how far it bends. Man, just chop with the sucker.

I'm sure it can take more than most of us will possibly ever put it through.
