MM, the Hawks are NOT differentially treated. They are through hardened and both are SR 101.

The Kill Devil is definitely more practical, but since I already have a SR Crash Axe, and since I've waited a year for the Rattle Hawk, I had to have the Rattle Hawk. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> I'll probably wind up getting a Kill Devil eventually too though. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Great pics drbarnes! It looks like the Kill Devil Hawk is the same just about an 1 1/2" longer.
How do the slabs handle vibrations? Can you do some serious chopping with it?

If the Swamp would REMOVE 6" from the spine of the Kill Devil, between handle / head of the hawk....and REMOVE the prybar on the back of the head...I'd buy it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> A Ratalishess take on the paul's hatchet. Yes please <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

But, the Swamp already has the Ratchet. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Is it possible for a Knife person to cut it down for you? Would it destroy the heat treat? I've seen people shorten the handles on their Busse swords.
