Check out this neat little AR-7, which packs everything into the stock when not in use:http://www.henryrepeating.com/rifle-survival-ar7.cfm

Looks nice. At $230 street price it won't break the bank.

I ahve wanted one for a while. I just never bought one. That new take down Ruger 10/22 has some merit also.

I showed this to a friend and he said he doesn't trust these Henry rifles and to get a 10/22 instead. I trust the opinion of this particular person.
The way it tears down and stores is ingenious though, perfect for a bob or anywhere else with space issues.

MB, I'll make sure to take a look at the take down version of the 10/22, never knew they had one.

I had a Charter Arms version in the mid 80s. Suspect at best. The original Armalite versions are suppose to be good.

I have nothing but good things to say about all my Henry rifles. This one is no different. It is excellent for what it is... A nice, packable, inexpensive .22 survival rifle. It should be understood that with this design you can't expect it to be a tack driver.
That said, if I had to pack one takedown .22 it would be my trusty Marlin 39a.<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

 YMMV,

The AR-7 and the Ruger takedown are two different animals. I had an AR-7 around 35 years ago and let it go for cheap. Should have not sold it. Tempted to get a new one or one of these.http://www.packrifle.com/ | | |

Same here Fred. I had one back around '78 or so and really liked it. Shot amazingly accurate and never had an issue with it. UNFORTUNATELY I though I had to have a "Tactical" shotgun. ONE of many sales I regret.

There are three "take down" .22 rifles that I know of. The Henry (AR-7), the Ruger TD and the Marlin Papoose. Well make that four counting the one that 44Fred referenced in his post above.
