I think the fence is in danger of collapse due to restraining the BCAA...

Also will it be thru-tempered or differentially tempered?

A good question! 'Thombrogan' said he thought diff' tempering on sr77 wasn't needed as the steel is so [censored] tough anyway! Still a good question though!

I hope by "Bowie" they mean a nice subtle clip point and not one of those ridiculous exaggerated ones you sometimes see.

Hopefully not something like:

[Linked Image from imperialweapons.com]

I still want to be able to pry with the [censored] thing.

Thats a nice shiny toy for the wall... I think Dan's bowie will be intended for knocking hell out of stuff like forests, scrap metal and anything else too slow to get out of the way- you know the usual!

Any specs would be welcomed.
I know a bunch of us are just dying to order it already, judging from the postings.
Plus, my scrapper needs a new friend. Dogs like to run in packs, after all.
You cannot just have one.

Yep an update on general production-run plans would be nice... Letting us scrap-aholics save up our pennies or cents or plan credit card financial meltdown...

hey guys, i'm new to the forums. i've been lurking for a week or so, waiting for some info on the bowie! at the same time, i've been having some fun speculating what the bowie will look like. i found one that would be really sweet-- it's a busse variant (a little more than halway down the page, or do a search for "V72 - Blue Grass Bowie"): http://homepage.mac.com/zombiekiller/badmojo/variants2.html

thanks for the welcome, gravelface. i just got a crazy thought: what if we still called it a bowie, but had it look different from the normal "bowie-ness", and more like, say, the "V70 - Steel Heart Harpooned Tipped Variant" above the blue grass bowie? you know, something with crazy grind lines.

Crabapple, I think #V70 would go against Dan's manifesto,"The guys in the shop used to call him “Dan The Hack” because his fit and finish were secondary concerns as he only cared about blade performance and little else. . . His philosophy was simple, if it didn’t affect the performance of the knife, he didn’t bother spending any time on it. So, his knives were a whole lotta ugly in the looks department with their simple handles and full-height flat ground blades, but their performance was simply amazing."

I don't think it would happen!

Howdy Crabapple and Welcome to the Yard!! That V72 variant is pretty cool looking, but I am really anxious (as are so many others!) to see Dan's Bowie. I hope it has clean lines and a decent clip-point. Tom

Hi Crabapple welcome to the yard! Looking at the Scrapper, Dan's lines are [censored] near perfect! The proportions are just spot on.. He may just be aiming at performance but does it with style. I bet you get a PT on the bowie...

that looks like a nepalese bowie. Guy who probably took one day to make it made enough to feed his family and knock back some ... with the the boys.

When I saw the finish on the LE it reminded me of the khukris I have. Ghurkas carry khukris into battle still. I have to google it but I think Nepal still has Ghurkas in the sandbox.

Yep the ghurkas are still very active as part of the British Army and Nepali army, whooping [censored] for 'Queen and Country' or King and country- they are still some of the best hard-core bad-[censored] infantry around.. Funny that, they are dei-facto mercenaries in the British Army but still one of the (if not the) most loyal, reliable formations out there... I wonder why we haven't sent them to Af', it'd be right up their street..

Paul - They are probably afraid to send some Ghurkas there, as they don't want the good guys chopping off heads like the bad guys do ! It WOULD be an interesting battle - Ghurkas vs. bin Laden's bad boys with blades ! Tom

Let's keep this one up near the top until the question gets answered.

And the question is what are the specs for the bowie and when will we be able to expect it for sale? Also tempering info, would be appreciated.

Thanks
to whoever gives up the info.

PK, that fight would be very one sided- razor sharp 12" khukri versus beat up old AK bayonet... my money would be on the little brown dudes with the Union Jack on their shoulder! I'm not not sure if they still collect heads but I'm not sticking my neck out on the subject...
