Leather cause I like it. Kydex works but leather is my preference for tradition I guess.

Hi Everybody,

let me see if I can address the concerns.

The snap on the sheaths I make are a safe guard, that I started/developed on the GG&G battle hawk sheaths that I have made over 6000, yep 6 thousand of. Their hawk is at least twice as heavy as the KD and I have never heard of of or had one of those hawks come out when it was not suppose to.

The hawk will actually stay in the sheath very well with out the strap as I close the bottom of the sheath together at the bottom for retention, something that again I developed with the Battlehawk.

I also place the strap under the head of the hawk on the sheath so that the beard of the hawk will not inadvertently poke out and leave and exposed edge for the user.

I used to make sheaths that would have the hawk drop in from the top. We changed that as the hawks could pop up with running and what not also the soldiers that carried them on their vest would say the popping up would strike them in the jaw. No fun for them.

Hope this helps.

David, I can see where the snap may not be necessary, but I for one would want it, if for nothing else than an option to ensure that the hawk didn't get lost out of the sheath when you're bustin through the brambles.

David, maybe you could replace one of the eyelets on the top part of the sheath with a snap so the strap can be swung up out of the way and fastened so it doesn't flop around, for those that don't want to use it or to store it while it's just laying around camp.
