I use a brain tanned chunk of thick coyote hide and strope it off the belt of my buckskins. Just kidding, I tried brain tanning once--the hide never tanned and got to stinking--but I digress. I use a little ceramic pocket stone. I just keep it clean with water between uses.

I worry about ceramic breaking. So even though I use a Spyderco Sharpmaker about weekly at home I carry a DMT duofold course and fine in the field. They are light and tough in the folded position. I personally have had much better luck with DMT flat diamonds than with any other mfgr of flat diamond hones. I suspect round might be about the same though.

I used to use the otter box with the strop similar to the one pictured. Now I just use the dmt diafolds blue to tan and loaded strop I made all stuffed into a maxpedition pouch. Seems to handle most tasks except major chips to the blade which I seldom get.

I don't know if this is ok but i just bought a finishing strop from knives plus. after stropping on a regular strop with the green and black compounds I finish on the knives plus and I makes the edge very sharp!

I use DMT diamond hones, coarse and fine, and a Spyderco ceramic hone.

So I've narrowed it down to the DMT Diafold.....but the question I have now is which combination?
I'm thinking that the fine/coarse combination should be able to handle anything I may need to accomplish in the field.
How does the coarse stone do for more major stuff like edge damage and reprofiling?
