I thought the yard forum was like a professional dog walker... Lots of mutts in one place all pulling in different directions! Not so much thread hijacking as evolution 'doggie style...

Welcome to the pound Xaero, the knives are all thru tempered as far as better men than me know (and post!) but they are supposed to be tougher than the proverbial old boots, so go get one mate! (Busse knives ie FBM are thru tempered too, and they don't break- period.)

So that means thru-tempered (TT)? Busse Combat knives are all TT whereas some of the Swamp Rats are Differentially Tempered? Would you clarify? Thanks!!!

Stealther,

Look at any uncoated blade that is differentially tempered or hardened. There will always be a demarcation between the harder and softer crystals, even if they're both the same name on paper. You can see it on the larger SR-101 blades and you can see it on handmade blades with such a temper. Can you see it on the Scrapper 6LE?

Thom,

Are you talking about the Hamon? I don't have a LE version of the S6 and I can't see it on the pictures people have posted, but they can be easy to miss. I don't expect the Scrapper to be Differentially tempered, but the Bowie might! Just was wondering which school of thought Dan subscribes to for his knives.

The hamon on a differentially tempered knife wouldn't be a stark contrast like on a custom made knife with higher carbon and an acid etch, but the more tempered spine-side reflects light differently than the more hardened edge-side.

Even with a mindset of toughness-uber-alles, I can't see anyone differentially tempering S7. If Dan does that, my statement is literal as I ain't in Tejas.
