Hogs are smart critters. They tend to hide in the day. Thats when I use the 45/70. I walk dry creek beds and take them when they run.

I did a lot of shooting in the military, and most the vast majority of shots are within 300yrds. Unless your sniping, and then all bets are off. Never used the 50 cal, was experimental back in my day. But made some long range shots with a highly modified M-14 (.308).
