The elmax should be good here for the damp weather here.  I love a nice patina on a carbon blade  My father liked the carbon blades as well, and his knives had a good patina on them.  I am old school in a lot of ways My favorite knife is an old wade and butchers woodcraft clone made circa 1930

We get coyotes on our front yard some nights  You get the bears over there as well, don't you?  I live in Mission and yes we get blackbears as well

I like the newer (Busse/kin) thicker utility knives for the lateral strength.

Keeping 'm sharp, that's a different matter: I usually just iron the blades I use and that's also when they get inspected.

That's not to say I don't take care of the others: they get the occasional wipe with the cloth and check of the edge too. It's just that if I don't use them, they just get a layer and get put to sleep.
