the pucks seem to be more for tools and axes I haven't been brave enuf to try freehand

Let me know what you find. That is something I would be interested in if it doesn't cost a fortune.

Harbor freight has a cheap one that you can remove the platen. Lee valley sells good belts and leather strops. HF also sells cheap Bowie knives to practice on. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

HF has a belt and disc sander that aint too expensive think that would be handy

the belt sander doesn't have a platen so no need to remove it ......bonus

seems like they would be better for recurve blades.

know I need to get some real practice in with something..
