Vegtable oil can go rancid and maybe make your sheath stink,? I don't know. Anyhow, I use mineral oil on all my users and food prep knives. For stripped blades and longer term storage, Ren wax is great to.

Tuf-cloth from sentry solutions, get marine tuf-cloth if you are near the ocean. Get a small bottle of tuf-glide to rejuvenate the cloth if you forget it and it goes dry.

Dries completely, you won't know its there and protects very well against rust.

I've used their products for years on knives and I would use them on firearms as well. No stickyness, no smell, no discernible coating.

No, I'm not affiliated with these guys <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Tuf-cloth or Marine Tuf-cloth for me. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Supposed to be safe with food too, although I always rince and wipe the blade down first. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Looks like I need to get a tuf-cloth...

I've also got some Frog Lube on order, this isn't supposed to be anything special in terms of rust protection, but it smells nice and is even edible <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />. Going to use it on EDC items.

I use mineral oil and ren wax. they both work great. I found the key is to just make sure you get them out of the safe and beat on them at least once a week <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Shucks, free is better than paying for it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />.

Why would you get rid of the frog lube, don't like it? why not?

I am a firearms instructor and I shoot a very high volume of rounds. I have found that the Frog Lube doesn't hold up in my weapons. Regular application of CLP or FP-10 has been my best bet. I've used the paste and the liquid both with the same results. No matter what I use, it needs reapplied daily.

Good to know. I heard recently of another failure with frog lube, on an AR during a class where they shoot about 1k rounds. At round 800ish he started having malfunctions.

So, my thinking is, it's great as an EDC or casual use, but for a hard use gun or class that's hard use - use something better.

Or would you stay away from it all together?

I haven't tried Slip 2000 on a knife yet but it rocks in high round count AR applications.

I'm sure it would be fine for EDC as you say. I haven't tried it as such or for corrosion. Maybe I'll put some on the edge of my RS just to see.
