On the other side of the bridge you enter the Myanmar immigration.
Here you have to answer a couple of questions and the you get your visa, after paying 500 Bath.

Ok, many parts of Thailand is poor.
But Myanmar is an example of extreme poverty.

As soon as we entered we were approached by cigarette sellers.
I said no. Next they asked: Viagra?!? Do I look like I need that???
I declined.

We walked by foot around the city, and I have never seen anything like it.
They just had nothing, but they made it work.

In a small river we saw people trawling, not for fish, but for garbage. Strange sight for us who are used to discard a carton if milk if we suspect it may be close to going bad.

The local marked was cool to see. They had a lot of tools, like kukris, bolos and machetes for sale. I didn't buy any. Didn't feel like explaining a machete at the border crossing.

At one time the police stopped us because we were about to enter a bad neighborhood. We just said; not a good idea for two white tourists, and pointed us towards a temple. I did appreciate that.l
