I have long term storage food. I look at it as a type of insurance.

Exactly and if it turns out you don't need it you can just eat it.

The only problem is it's pretty hard to carry food and water with you....

And there is the joy of living in the sticks. I can just hunker down and wait. Being a combat engineer has really added to my defensive capabilities.

After the flooding we had this spring I am seriously considering building on stilts the only reservation I have about it is the ability to defend it or lack thereof.

One of the cool things people overlook is water heaters. Lots of emergency water there and nothing special to keep it or use it. A pan and the drain.

Hey JG, right now I have a Gregory 35 which is heavy at like 3 lbs. I use it for training. I am always loading it up with 30 - 60 lbs and walking, hiking with it on to trail. I would love to have the Mountain Laurel Designs Burn pack. Check them out. A buddy of mine had one and its really nice, well made and solid lightweight gear. I am trying to make something in the similar size range and features. Its a great pack.
Those are nice just checked it out, I use Jam 50L Pack weighing 1lbs 14 oz.
