There are other reasons such as identity theft
On another site that my wife and I used our real names, we and four others were sued for liable, slander and civil conspiracy and the anonymous people that may have crossed the line simply disappeared
Cost me over $40,000 in legal fees

I really disliked living in London, there are cameras everywhere!
Funny enough, they don't deter criminals at all. Probably the city I have felt most unsafe of all I've been...

i never give my real info and i give plenty of disinfo, so i dont worry about the invasive principles of facebook and the like.
only thing i have to be aware of is geolocation and satellite data, but when that sort of thing matters i make sure it is also covered.
does that sound paranoid? rather be safe than sorry. anonymity is the first and best shield. doesn't sound paranoid at all. we live at a time where people get paid well to say whatever people want to hear. knowing what they want to here is big business. individuals are a commodity. those polls dont just go away after the electicions. im pretty sure the most successful data will go on to sell people on some products. I setup a few facebook accounts and despite thinking my info wasnt available I somehow have people I've known "friending" me. I suspect that in the next 10 years or so you can google my name and see 20,000 posts or so on this forum show up at the top of the links. probably along with a photo of me and I'm pretty sure I've never put a single photo of myself on the Internet. dah!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just remembered something!!!!! I wasn't thinking and emailed a photo of myself to a huge company to confirm my identity. think horndog mentioned the matrix earlier in the DC. slowly but surely they chip away like a diamond mine.

I have a couple of cousins that keep putting pictures of me on my dad's private fb genealogy group They know I hate it but think it is funny because it is a closed group

my good friend who passed back in may is named chris harris. we joked about this all the time... also had another friend who had the same name not so common name as a habitual offender that stayed in trouble and always had warrants. try explaining that every single time you have to deal with the law.

The paranoia is only useful if it is complete. Anything less is insufficient. For example: If people have any kind of government license, tax, financial/credit or utility account in their name attached to or sent to their home, then there is truly no point in worrying much about privacy invasion from other sources as you are already extremely easy to locate. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> im well off the radar actually.
