If you want to get him something nice that he will be able to use now and as an adult and then pass on to his own children I have a suggestion. Look at a CZ 452 Scout. Its a smaller 22 bolt action that you can switch stocks on and use as an adult. Its atck driver. They usually come with some nice wood stocks. Far better than any that I have seen under a grand in any gunshop. They are priced reasonably and are some great guns. Some come with a threaded barrell. Also a bonus if you want a quieter option later on. ![[Linked Image from czub.cz]](http://www.czub.cz/upload/cz-big/CZ_452-2E_ZKM_SCOUT.png)

Thanks guys, liking the look of that one MB, pretty good price as well. Making a list so when I'm ready to start shopping, it's always good to have a starting point

Oh and Jared, IF you do get a magazine fed bolt action, you might start out ONLY loading one in the magazine at a time and have him cycle it as normal. Get him used to "racking the bolt".

That way he can "Get on target" with the rifle and THEN chamber a round. You CAN NOT STRESS SAFETY ENOUGH!
It may be overkill, but if someone hands me a handgun to look at, even if I just watched them rack the slide on an empty chamber, I will do it again and visually check that the chamber AND magazine are empty.

I have a CZ 452 varmint and that is my favorite 22 rifle. It beats the snot out of any of the other ones that I have owned. The wood on mine looks great and its sub MOA at 100 yards with the right ammo if I do my part.
I was very impressed with the wood on the stock of mine. Great grain color and finish. Mine was not a hand picked gun. It was the only one I could find.
I will see if I can dig up a photo.

Yeah, I got into that habit after watching my friend who is a detective handle my guns. Now I do it all the time too
