The technique is
1/3 cup of popcorn kernels
3 tablespoons of coconut oil
Heat up the oil in a 3 quart pot on medium high heat, put 4 kernels in the oil, once they pop, it is hot enough
Add the rest of the popcorn and remove the pot from the heat for 30 seconds ( this allows the oil to transfer heat evenly to the kernels
Put the pot back on the heat, once it starts popping rapidly, shake the pot ( like making jiffy pop) until the popping slows down
Dump immediately into a big bowl
I add a bit of salt to the oil, the a little to the top. I find I don't even have to add butter ( or substitute) it just doesn't need it
Oh, and have the top on the pot the whole time, just slightly open to allow steam to escape for crisper popcorn

old school cast iron pot popcorn is hard to beat my dad used to make it all the time maybe ill get his to do some up for christmas.
