Over in the DC we were talking about what kind of Winter we are going to have and I mentioned that Patty and I cut open a Persimmon seed the other day and found a spoon.
Patty was right!
PREDICTING THE WEATHER WITH A PERSIMMON If you cut it open a seed may be another clue to winter weather. According to old-timers, persimmon seeds can be used to predict the severity of winter weather. When cut into two pieces, the persimmon seed will display on of three symbols. A knife shape will indicate a cold icy winter (where wind will cut through you like a knife). A fork shape indicates a mild winter. A spoon shape stands for a shovel to dig out the snow.
Do any of Y'all have any "Old timers" way of predicting the weather?

Haha, here too, at least at times. But it's fun to find out how accurate the "Old Ways" can be.

"Old Ways", eh?
I walk outside every morning in me undies...if the boys run and hide, I know it's cold out and I need to put on some layers.
Have I said too much? Hahaha...

One thing I look at is how thick the coats get on my critters. Somehow it always comes out right. They're getting pretty thick. I hope this year they are wrong.

If Todd has bugs in his teeth, it is nice bike riding weather.

Wooly Bears (most people call them "Wolly Worms") can be used to predict the weather..... These little guys are the caterpillars that you usually see inching their way across a road. They're made up of 16 segments of brown and black(ish) "bristles". The center brown band width determines the severity of the winter: the wider the brown the milder the winter. Here's an example of a mild winter Wooly Bear: I've not been looking for them this year so I can't predict.

Most of the ones I've seen were, or at least look almost all black!
