The 1311 is a lot like a machete. A kukri is a lot like a machete. They can both chop too. I love kukris, and I'm probably going to sell a kidney for an INFI kukri someday, but I feel like they're too much for light and colorful jungle/forest/zombie stuff that machetes are for. Everything is a compromise, and everyone has different feelings about what compromise is best. But, I don't think anyone will disagree about the good value for the money that you get from machetes, and the 1311 is a decent value for its quality, even if it's very expensive compared to most utility machetes.
Things get interesting when you don't consider price, and only focus on quality and functionality. My question is, if the prices don't matter, which blade would you want with you in whatever circumstance you can imagine, which blade would you leave behind, what accessories would you want (if any), and why? For this question, obviously weight matters, and kukris are heavy, so I think it's reasonable to expect something "more" from them versus lighter machetes. Both machetes and kukris are proven in modern combat, but machetes get left behind in favor of extra ammo (etc), while kukris don't get left behind for some reason...
Thoughts?

1311. My opinion might change after I use my 1311 a bit, but it's light, has reach, and can do a lot. If it was a TTKZ, I might change my mind. I'd have to see...

i don't have a KZ, but I would say take the 1311. It's lighter and will cut anything the kuk will, it may take longer, maybe not. Lightness and versatility wins it for me.

Some say you want what you don't have, so I voted kukri, but I feel like I could take on the world with my 1311. If I was just fighting, make it the Rucki.

1311 is my vote.
It is lighter and you will work faster. A thick kukri is very blade heavy.
As for fighting, I believe the 1311 will prove better, again due to weight.
Also chopping with a kukri is a bit more tricky, IMO. The sweetspot is more limited.

I'll take the 1311. It weighs about the same as some 7 inch blades. The reach will let you drop the 14 inch machete and 5-to-7 inch knife combination and have very similar utility.
The kukri doesn't work for me for trail clearing and grass cutting. Vines (maybe 2 or 3 inches) would also be a problem. I find it difficult to open green coconut with a kukri. Most of my big knife chores involves smaller branches, some nothing of big logs, 6 inch diameter hard and softwood, and of course, cutting, shaping and notching lengths of bamboo about 6 inches across.
I plan to add a 6 inch razor swedge to the 1311 - just like I do with bolo machetes. That should work well for fighting.

The 13-11 got my vote! Weight/utility factor is the reason for my choice. I think I would rather 1311 plus an Ax (maybe a chain saw) for anything it can't chop through.

Do you think maybe the 1311 is too thick and heavy for grass, vines, and coconuts, vs a cheap Tramontina utility machete?? http://www.scrapyardknives.com/ubbthread...ge=0#Post671300 The TTZ out chops the 1311, but for its weight, the 1311 in outstanding. My Zilla is excellent at clearing light brush and vines, but that's because it has been thinned out a bit Wow, great post, and nice video too! Thank you so much for sharing that. After seeing them both, I voted for both! I think the coating puts the 1311 at a disadvantage vs the satin KZTT due to extra friction in the cut and the withdraw. A satin finish on the 1311 should narrow the gap a little, but for one-chop destruction, the KZTT is probably always going to be king! Some say you want what you don't have, so I voted kukri, but I feel like I could take on the world with my 1311. If I was just fighting, make it the Rucki. I like the extra reach on the 1311 and rucki. Blade on blade fighting is probably not going to happen in the modern era, but for sneaky clandestine sentry elimination (and lacking specialized weapons for the job), quick and silent one-chop destruction favors the KZTT over the 1311. Plus, if you get cornered on the exfiltration, you can always chop out a new door for your escape through bricks, concrete, and fences with the KZTT. I think I'm going to have to get both the KZTT and the 1311. There are simply a few things the 1311 cannot do, and I'm sure I'm going to be chopping through concrete walls with the KZTT when I get done with cutting some bamboo tent poles with the 1311, haha. So, you see, I have to have both!

I use a 22 inch Martindale parang for grass and coconuts. Works well but can't handle the big stuff the way that I would like. Plus, with a machete, you are sharpening it constantly. I have a Junglas and a RAT-7 that are just too small. I hope that the 1311, if choked up, will do a great job on cocnuts. Especially when you split them in half for the jelly. I hope that I will never try to cut grass with one. Not enough reach and too many rocks here in the mountains. I'll take the 1311. It weighs about the same as some 7 inch blades. The reach will let you drop the 14 inch machete and 5-to-7 inch knife combination and have very similar utility.

Ammo if those are my only choices.
The only cutlery I usually carry or see carried on a combat load are fixed blades in the 5 inch range, multitools and tomahawks. Then again, I have only been on a few deployments to a jungle/forest environment.
