Hey all,

I just wanted to take a minute and introduce myself. I'm Joe and I'm brand new to both the forum and Scrap Yard Knives. I currently reside in The Peoples republic of Commiefornia. I just recently came across the Scrap yard site and started doing some research. It seems like kismet as I was looking for a great chopper at a reasonable price. The 911 seems to fit that bill perfectly so I went ahead and ordered my first Scrap Yard Knife 2 days ago. I'm excitedly waiting in anticipation of the shipping notice and of course the arrival of my blade. Just out of curiosity, based on everyone's experience, what is the average turn around time on orders from Scrap Yard?

Well I look forward to learning a lot and hopefully sharing a bit as well. I've perused the forum a bit already and see that there is a lot of knowledge floating around out there. Thanks for giving me a chance to be a part of all this.

regards,
Joe

Welcome, Joe! You'll find that we are a pretty easy going bunch here, except for the darned squirrel.....

In regard to the lead times, I believe they quote about 4-16 weeks for most knives. It really depends on a number of things, especially which knife and how many orders they have to fill before yours.

From the Peoples Socialist Republic of Illinois, I want to extend another welcome to the yard. You'll find some interesting folks frequent this site, and they know a ton about a variety of subjects.

Oh, and you're gonna love the 911...and the 711, 511, 311, 411, etc, etc, etc...

Welcome to the yard! And from what I know, the 911 rocks.

A bit of advice; unless you plan to make a sheath yourself, I would recommend you ordered one from one of the sheathmakers out there already now. That way, you won't have to wait an additional length of time to get going with the 911.

A couple of sheath makers:
Rainwalker, David Brown(buy brown), Mashed Cat, Al Welke. There are others too, just can't think of more right now. The turnaround may differ from maker to maker.

Welcome!!!! The sheath advice I second. You find that this is a great place to hang out and no question is stupid so ask away. I would keep a eye out for the nutty squirrel why your here.

YUP, Like everyone else said, Welcome Big Joe! You have now entered and there is NO exit!!! You will spend the rest of your days seeking the next piece of Scrapyard goodness to fill your ever growing, never slacking lust for Dan's wares. Don't worry though, We're all in the same boat.

And there IS a LOT of information around here, on many subjects. BUT like the others said, steer clear of the Squirrel. He's OK as long as he gets his steel (well most of the time anyway), but if he thinks it's been to long, ANYTHING is possible. Oh and the Squirrel is DogTired, or DT.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. I plan on sittin for a bit and learning a thing or two. It looks like my first lesson is going to be patience and impulse control with that 4-16 week wait. LOL Well like my momma always said anything worthwile is worth waiting for. As far as the sheath goes I've already started doing some scouting and already have a few mods I plan on making once I recieve it so it will better suit my needs. This will be my first blade of this size my next biggest is a 7 inch Recon Scout. I'll have to experiment with carry position and style and find what's comfortable. Thanks all for the advice. I look forward to learning a lot and sharing my own limited experience.

Regards,
Joe
