Please be cautious of recycling wood pallets for food gardens. Pallets harbor tons of bacteria and chemicals. Most test high for E. coli because they spend time outdoors around animal droppings. Plus they can be treated with formaldehyde.

Cool idea if you build your own though.

Skunk will that technique work with other types of plants as well, or is that a strictly tomato thing? I think I'm going to give that one a try.

regards,
Joe

I don't know why it wouldn't work for other stuff, like peppers. I would think that it would only be good for things that grow on vines.

Nice thanks for the ideas guys. JJ thanks for the pics. What is that rig in the first pic of the second post? That looks pretty nifty.

regards,
Joe

After reading Skunk's post. i googled "upside down planter." It is called Upside-Down Planter on Walmart's website. It goes for $40.

There were tons of results in the search, and many showed plants other than tomatoes growing upside down.

That pallet garden is pretty cool. I've never seen that. We had a bunch of pots at one of our apartments last year. We did cherry tomatoes, beef steak tomatoes, bell peppers, squash, herbs, and more tomatoes. It was awesome

Thanks Skunk, JJ, and everyone else that posted. You all gave me some cool new ideas and some resources to check out. Once I finally decide on something I'll post a few pics of the final rig and hopefully be able to report back some success at finally growing some of my own grub.

regards,
Joe

didn't think about squash...

need to remember to get seeds. I'm thinking off trying onions, tomatoes, peppers and some herbs. i mainly just want stuff to make meals out of the fish I catch. a lemon plant would be nice.

it's nice but $40 for a planter? i was actually hoping to get the whole thing going for $40.
