Doing some reading over at shotgun world. And the guys are claiming the new police guns are almost the same as the express. Just three different parts. smirk I'm a little confused. I thought remington police were ringmasters with a different configured barrel/stock.
Any thoughts?

I would think those guys know what they're talking about. Best to get an old police model just to be safe. Not there is anything wrong with Express models.

Some of the new express models have full lengthy mag tubes so you don't need a extension tube.
Not sure if I like or don't like that.

I'm thinking Nordic components mag tube if I get a gun that needs one.
Mesa tactical side saddle.
New follower
Over size safety
And I want the gun to come with ghost rings because that a expensive up grade to do later.

The only remington 870P I like avalible from the factory is the 24591 model but I'm not sure if u can find one or how much it would run.

Also I'm not sure how the Remington finishes will hold up.
I have never heard of somebody having to refinish a nova.
But my remington is almost brand new and it lightly misted when I was deer hunting this fall and with in the hour I had surface rust on a oiled gun.
My sisters remington also suffers from a weak finish.
But my dads old 80's model 870s finish is tough I've seen it hit concrete and not a scratch.

Just found that mossburg makes a semi 930 set up for three gun that can be had for the same price as some of the new 870 express tactical models. Around $600. The 930 I used guiding in the fall didn't fail me once..... So now another gun is thrown in the mix. I'm not a big mossburg fan but for the money it's hard to beat.

It will probably come down to what I can get a hold of locally for the cheapest.

Benelli supernova tactical can be had for $500 plus or minus $100. Needs mag tube and side sattle
Remington 870 SGA or 870police or 870express tactical needs seem to be any where from $499-$799 depending on model. Needs side saddle.
Mossburg 930 three gun or 930tactical model semi auto. List $730-$780 but I hear they can be had for $100 cheaper. Needs side sattle

this thread go me thinking and googling. i was thinking something like the jerry miculek 930 would be nice but i would prefer not to have the guys name on my shotgun.

while googling i came across a post where some guys took mossberg 930 waterfowl guns and the barrels cut down and setup for chokes. they had sights and magazine tube extensions added. i'm liking this idea and the base shotgun isnt all that expensive.

here's a picture of one.

Back in the day (1989 in fact) I took an 1100, chopped teh 28inch VR barrel to 20 inches, added a Polychoke, Millet Three Bar Sights, Choate Stock and forend, Choate follower, Choate Extension tube and a UM enlarged safety. That thing was just hell on hogs in the scrub...!!!!!!!

Gundog, I would still be shopping for an old and ugly 870 and built it up from there.

Because the area that I live doesn't have many gun shops anything I want tactical will have to be ordered in. So it's a blessing and a curse. I don't really get to handle the gun before I put the cash down. If I get a used one I really feel like I need to inspect it myself before I spend money on one.
And the bad new if this with a new gun is I don't get to feel which feels better of the new ones without driving all over Ohio Kentucky and Indiana.

I think I just need to set a budget that includes money for the gun and accessories.
Other wise I'm going to be getting a Benelli M4!!!!

Also I have been thinking of using this set up for a lot of the thick brush hunting I do for deer and hopefully soon coyote. So I want a light weight gun that not going to be a pain to carry. So I need to consider weight too. Looks like most of the guns are coming in at about 7.5-9 pounds.

I recently picked up a Mossberg 930 JM Pro with a 22". I had a 930 SPX prior a few years ago and I really liked it so I figured I would give this 930 JM Pro a shot. Thus far I am really glad I did as it has a 22" brl, 9 shot capacity, raised rib, chocke tubs, stock shims, large charge handle, synthetic stock, tube clamp, with Nordic parts. I ran over 250 rds through it a few weeks ago--slug, buck, #4 buck, #4 shot, # 7 1/2 shot heavy field loads, and bulk #8 shot from Wally World. The shotgun ate everything that I threw at it, the cheap shells could be told from the heavy stuff but they still worked. Cleaning the shotgun is very easy, and it is recoil operated so don't hang a bunch of stuff of the end of it and it should perform great. I think for the price you can not beat it, I will either pick up the parts to make a hunting gun too or just get a combo kit gun for dove and deer. Take a look at it, for the money saved over a Benelli I say you can't go wrong.

Thanks. I agree the 930 duck gun I ran guiding last fall never had a problem from low base 7 1/2 - 3in BB loads.

I guess I will just have to see.

How do they feel weight wise. I'm not a small guy but I do hate carrying around a heavy shotgun.

I also between the two 930 you hade which do you think would work better for thick brush hunting, HD, zombie apocalypse, and as an all around hard use gun?

My guess is my budget will keep me out of the auto loader field for the next year.
But one can dream
