He has developed (over the last 3-4 years) VERY bad back problems. Almost to the point where he is virtually immobile. He was going to quit at the end of the month (had already given his notice) and was going to try for disability.

Well, sounds like he is going to pay a steep price for his actions, as well as continued back problems.

That's bad. I can't imagine stealing from anyone, much less my sheriffs office.

There is a small town south of here that nearly the whole police force got caught in an FBI sting over taking bribes. It happens from time to time, but I just hate to hear it happen anywhere.

Our former Sheriff supposedly had a history of philandering.

The sheriff here about 20 years ago was well known to be working the good ole boy system. He hired all the rejects from other counties, plus let his buddies come in and carry guns and ride with him. Even convicted felons.

Subject change I know, but I'm watching the movie "The Secret of My success". I like that movie, but I actually feel sorry for Michael J. Fox at times in the movie. But It works well in the end and than makes me happy.

Back when I lived in Illinois I heard things via my former FIL - a Cook County Sheriff's Deputy - that would make you wonder who was worse...the criminals or the LEO's.

Tom, Unfortunately, this is a statement that is more true than folks would believe. It is a sad fact.

The power and authority that accompanies a badge can definitely be a corrupting influence.
