I"ve been reading alot of post but haven't found out for sure. Does the scrapper 6 have a convex edge? Thanks for the help.

Yes Cazio,it's got a convex edge.Hold the knife up and look down the edge and you can see that the sides of the edge is rounded just a bit.IMO that's what helps these knives and the rest of the Busse family cut as good as they do.Plus it helps to protect your edge compared to a flat v-grind.Not near as likely to chip;it'll just roll.

Scott, Thanks for the info. There has been so much talk about sharpening the convex edge, I wanted to make sure that it was convex and not just assume.

The rolled edges are great but jeez you spend a fortune on wet&dry paper to sharpen them on... V grinds save SO much money!

I started using the sandpaper, but it's pretty expensive when you have to keep buying more over and over. I switched to stones, my knives are shaving sharp, and I have no edge problems when chopping or batoning through frozen logs. For the cost of a lifetimes worth of sandpaper, you could have some really nice stones instead.

If you don't mess the edge up,you can bring it back out with a strop and the right compound.

Use the wet/dry paper wet and it will last longer due to reduced friction and the mess it'll make will be a detterent as well.

Thom the wife would kill me messing up the house! (And there are sharp knives around...) My Lansky will hold on pretty well to the Scrappers spine (if you use the thin blade grooves!) and has now nicely V profiled the edge on my Scrapper... This blade is turning into my experimental one so when Dan does the INFI I know what I want to do with the edge! Right now I'm thinking Lansky... Previous V edged knives haven't failed in heavy use so I figure for economy and lack of hassle I'll carry on 'stoning' the steel!

Paul - I hope your wife doesn't see your last post - She will never let you get several more big choppers!
