Off to the dumpster behind the tanners shop then PK?

Or do like I was planning and recycle leather. Start looking at auctions, garage sales, and thrift stores for larger thicker leather like weightlifting belts, gun scabbards, etc. I've seen several thick weightlifting belts for $2-$3.

Most of the ones I've seen were at Goodwill. But, ya gotta keep checking. I regularly go to 7 or so different Goodwills throughout the week, and I've only seen 3-4 total there so far. But at least when you find one, they're really cheap!

Paul - I had bought some heavy leather scraps at the Tulsa gun show -cheap! - that I plan on using. Also, I have ordered a few items from LEATHER UNLIMITED, www.leatherunltd.com located in Wisconsin. I bought some cutlers rivets, holster clips, and a few other goodies from them, and they have been very good to deal with.

Andy made a great suggestion, that of checking Goodwills, and other thrift shops for materials. It is amazing what you can find there sometimes, and it is a good idea to keep checking back as they receive new stuff every week. My wife and I almost always find something!!!

No joy yet...
Mailman is getting used to me meeting him at the door, and he does want to see the new little black beast.
Maybe tomorrow....

Also for leathermaking supplies don’t forget www.tandyleather.com they may have a store near you that would save you on shipping.

I started it. He’s just copying me. It only works for smaller knives though due to width restrictions. But belts are a cheap source for leather if the knife is small enough. I can get brand new belts from the belt guy at the Sale Barn for $3 each. Or sometimes I find like new ones at Goodwill for $1. If you haven’t seen my belt sheath in progress, you can see it here: Shaker Sheath in Progress. And if you want to see the thead where we were originally talking about it and sharing leather making tips, see this thread: Leather Sheathmaking Question
