Might be a dumb question, but what is the purpose of the angled addition to the bottom of the hand guard on the green rifle?

Just make sure what you get us quality so you won't have to deal with BCG tilt

Might be a dumb question, but what is the purpose of the angled addition to the bottom of the hand guard on the green rifle? It is an angled foregrip. Newer style than the vertical grip. Some people say it is more comfortable than the vertical grip.

I want to try one. I normally keep my thumb on the rail and keep my other hands wrapped around the grip. It's kinda a compromise so I think the angle one may be just right

Ray nailed it It also doesnt hang up on gear as much. (Not as big of an issue this side of the pond but I still prefere it.) I always ran my forward grip at a 45 anyways so when these came out I switched and never looked back. http://store.magpul.com/category/88GD the adams arms/huldra set ups have special BCG that prevents it from happening. (One of the reasons I chose them.)

Thanks Monsterdog Yes it is a different gas block with a rod/piston leading back to a special BCG other than that it is just a "normal" AR setup. They sell adaptor kits to convert a standard AR into a piston setup and with those you get everything you need. piston kits It is variable for suppressor use also. Awesome, thanks for the info Have you looked into 300 AAC Blackout as an alternative to 7.62x39 (which you mentioned in an earlier post that you want to build)? Seems it would be a lot cheaper to build (though maybe not to shoot), and I heard there are magazine problems with the 7.62x39 stuff in the AR platform.

Monsterdog I did think about the 300 black out and 458 socom and 7.62x40WT but ammo availability and cost have narrowed it down to 7.62x39 or 5.45x39. It's a hard decision. lol
edit to add yeah the old mags had issues but there are some reliable options now.

Dont' think I have posted this yet, and it's something I found.
Military Poncho, I haven't seen since 1968! YUP, it's the old style heavy ones where the seams are sealed with rubber and it has cord along the bottom of the front and back sides. What a find! Last time I saw (and used it) was when I went to Philmont Scout Ranch outside Cimarron New Mexico.
If I remember, we had to carry a certain percentage (Pack weight) of our body weight. My total pack weight was 40 pounds and I was 14.
We did 10 days out on the trail covering a total of 100 miles. It was some of the most beautiful country I have ever seen.
If any of you have kids old enough to go there, and can afford it and they like the outdoors, do your best to let/send them if they want to go. It is an experience they will remember the rest of their lives.
