What is the difference between The Regulator, Deregulator and Test Team Regulator?

IIRC, the Regulator is a black blade/black handle. The Deregulator has the top guard cut off. The Test Team came in different blade and handle colors and the Bulldog Regulator has a different tip and had a camo blade and tan handle.

@Ray
Thanks for the info.
I actually thought people had taken the topguard off themselves.
Cool!

I believe the first deregulators came about because people were removing the top part of thr guards themselves.

The TTRegs were Differentially Treated: Spring Tempered body with 59-61 Rc edge. And a Full Flat grind.

The other Regs were Through Hardened at a lower Rc.

The heat treat and blade geometry makes a huge difference and puts the TTRegs in first place in my book.

The DeReg came about do to some complaints about the top guard (both getting in the way and being damaged during use. Plus some people didn't like the looks of the top guard). Very nice of Dan to accommodate all the dogs.

I gotta say the Regulator handles really help dampen the blow from chopping (my 1311 handles leave bees in my hand after extended use) the Regulator handles also allow for more chopping holds.

I gotta agree with Seth. The Regulator handle is my favorite for really big knives, its a shame it hasn't found its way on to more models.

I agree with the Regulator handles being awesome, I just think that it really would shine on something at least 9.5". I was also really hoping that the 1311 would feature this handle rather than the basic handle.

Maybe in the future Dan will make something along the lines of an 11" blade with this handle, that would be awesome!

The basic handles are a slightly angled, allowing for a better down stroke. The Regulator handles are straight. Better for stabbing.
