I can understand that I look at it like this. If the SHTF like some of us think it could, I will have some of the best steel made in mint condition to use or barter with. I also collect Zippos I have close to 100 of them from some of my old users that I used while in the service to 500 dollar rare ones, again I use a select few and the rest are in cases in my library for me to enjoy looking at. They too will be used if the SHTF out of necessity and for bartering.

I'm interested in the zippo as a SHTF tool. Can it run on other fuels than lighter fluid?

I have used gas, charcoal lighter fluid, denatured alcohol and kerosene but I am sure that many other flamable liquids will work with varying degrees of success. I don't smoke anymore (12 years now) but I wouldn't suggest inhailing many of these if you do.

Thanks, I never knew any of those worked.

You are welcome my fellow dogs. I know a lot of people say bring a butane lighter with when TSHTF but I say bring both and use the butane only when you can't use the zippo.

Hey greaser, since we're talking Zippos...I have one that isn't reliable. I can fill it up with Zippo fluid and a week later it's hit n miss...most often bone dry in under two weeks. I don't use it much as I'm a non-smoker. And it's not my first Zippo, just so unreliable I pack other lighters instead. Know any tips or tricks to stop this fluid loss?

I'm afraid that Jerry priced me out of this Ganza, so I'll be having fun with the grandkids instead. smirk

I'm torn between two clichés....""Fortune favors the Bold" and "Fools rush in".
