I hope you find what you're looking for, but I'm REALLY hoping that Dan makes this knife instead.

I think that the Vex from Blade this year would be about what you were looking for it you removed the scales and skeletonized the tang. A bit thicker than what you wanted but only 3/16", so not too much thicker.

I know what you mean about most neckers, I think it just stems from the fact that most people won't be comfortable carrying neckers that are longer than 7" overall.

I know for a fact that a Scrapivore is about as much knife as I want hanging off my neck, anything more and I'd just have it riding on a belt.

Another thing I feel needs improving for neckers is rounded corners of the handle to make them more comfortable against your body. The Scrapivore really illustrates this point with the pry bar end, the last thing you want is sharp(ish) metal jabbing you in bony areas.

AFF,

I'm going to try to get some hands on experience with a Blade Vex.

I agree about the rounded corners, and that's why I added broad radii on all of the hand-to-knife contact points in the sketch.

AFF,
I could see this being a great IWB carry blade too.

Keep in mind that the Swamp Rat Custom Shop will not skeletonize the tang for you, it would have to be somebody after market.

AFF brought up some good points about size and neck Vs Belt wear. But think about this (Yes, I know they didn't have belts) There are many pictures and also written documentation where the American Indians and early Settlers wore large knives by today's standards around their necks. Many times we "Modern" man haven't progressed as much as we like to think.

The reason the natives wore their knives around the neck was supposedly to avoid losing it. The reasoning was that you would notice the lack of weight hung off your neck if it wasn't back in it's pouch.

That being said, just because the indians did it DON"T mean there isn't a better way of doing it for yourself..... wink

They didn't use chainsaws either, but I bet they wouldn't turn one down that was full of gas...... smile

Arch,

Look at the SAR 5 and tell me that doesn't look like the exact blade shape you are after. Little bit longer blade than you wanted, but the profile is spot on. You could probably chop the pommel and taper the tang some, then skeletonize it for one hell of a neck/belt knife.

AFF, Yup I thought about the weight thing but didn't mention it. and yes we should each determine for ourselves what is the best carry FOR OURSELVES.

Haha, once they got over being scared of the noise the "Smoke Breathing Monster" made they would probably be laughing all the way to the wood pile. grin

You know Gary, AFF might be onto something with the SAR 5. You could strip off the scales, cut the handle down to the last rivet hole (use it as a lanyard hole) and go from there. You could even re-profile the blade to the length and exact shape you wanted, but I think the shape it is would work if it was 4 inches long.

Heck if you did it and didn't like it I bet you wouldn't have any problem getting rid of it.
