Looks like it was handled by a gorilla aboard the truck!  I suspect that it was due to mishandling; the stock was cracked from the recoil pad to a few inches into the stock and missing a piece.

I went into town today and ordered one via a local guy; not one of the old Marlins but a new one. May take a little while though.  I picked up some powder and reloading dies while there.
