I think I told this story here before on the dc
in 2009 I was hunting in norther BC
This area has seen a lot of natural gas exploration so you have these cutlines that are about 15 feet wide and they sectio off the area in I think 1 mile grids
I was walking down a cut line and some to an intersection and look up the cutline
About 20 yards up one I see this lynx sitting in the middle looking up into a tree
I put my binoculars on it, while doing so it sudenly spins around and faces me like it is going to charge.
I drop the binoculars and throw my rifle up
Now I don't want to shoot unless I have to, in a stern voice I say "get out of here"
I swear he gave me the kitty version of the finger
He wasn't budging an inch and in fact it looked like he was working up to have a go at me.
I slowly back up the cutline looking as big as I can
About 25 yards up I turn around and keep walking
When I get abot 75 yards up I see the lynx run around the corner
It then walks in the middle of the cutline following me step for step
He does this for about 250 yards, when I walk over a small hill, then when I get a bit further along I can see that it is gone

I think he was just showing me who was boss and escorting me out of his area.

That would spook me! Cats are mean and sneaky!

At the time it just felt awesome
I was experiencing a once in a lifetime event
The only thing I wish is that I could have got photos
My camera was in my pack but I didn't want to lower the rifle to search for the camera
It was a cheap camera so it wouldn't have showed anything when the cat was further away

I really feel privelaged to have had this happen to me

I agree that it would have been a awesome encounter. And yeah, I wouldn't have minded it to much either, but I would have had my head on a swivel though.

The whole walk back to camp my head was on a swivle
I didn't trust the lynx for a second, they do hunt and kill deer on occasion

That area is great
Not only have I seen moose, elk, deer, bison, black bear and caribou up there but I have seen grizzly, lynx and cougar as well

Last year we had a night of being serinaded by wolves that was great
The three of us sat around the fire for hours just listening to them

That must be nice. I actually dream of being able to be in a place like that, Back before the forests got polluted by boom boxes and cell phones.

Although it is very popular with moose and bison hunters here in BC

Most of BC outside of the lower mainland is sparesly populated
I think the best thing about Canada is that there is nobody here

Yeah I figure it can get quite populated at certain times of the year, but still, you can have the "Solitude" any time you want to head for the hills.

I can hit solitude in about an hour from my house

That would be close enough. Oh hey I guess I should say that there have been a few "Cougars" reported around here the last few years, black bear as well. The bears at least are supposed to be coming up from Arkansas.
