One thing to remember is that most of the rifles and parts in the US are of metric persuasion. Mags for an Inch pattern are a lot harder to come by and more expensive than the metrics. The BHO, mag release, and folding handle all can be had on the Metric gun too----I have a folding ch, a wide thumb safety like a L1A1, and the Imbel wide foot mag release. In fact one of my carriers is even sand cut as well as the receiver. It is the perfect FAL.

Saying that, if you go with a Inch gun, let me know. I have some items left over from when I had mine.

I haven't seen an FAL that had best of both worlds yet, Jeff. If I did I didn't know it. If you have a line on one let me know. I have an itchy bid / buy-it-now finger.

Thanks for the help!

Adam, kindof late to the party...but what's the intended use of the rifle?

Well, nothing in particular really. Just an all-arounder.

At first I was leaning towards the AR-10, then I figured since the FAL had such a huge following I might as well check one out. And a decent used one costs about as much as a new DPMS and that fits my budget quite nicely. I like the M1A but they're out of my reach, and the SCAR17 is out of the question.

I mailed my payment for a FAL today. If I find that I'm just not thrilled with it then I'll sell it and try something else. I'm sure I'll be more than happy with it though.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, Max. You've been a big help to me in the past so I value your opinion.

Sounds like you're headed down a good path. Will be fun to test out the FAL and see if it meets your needs.

I really have no experience with .308 autos. Main reason I was asking is because .308 is expensive...and in auto, I could not afford to feed one, lol. Everytime I consider a .308 semi-auto, I come back to my bolt and maintain preference on the 5.56 for the high output configuration....thus I'm a bad reference.

Looking forward to seeing your reviews when the FAL comes in! Pics!

Yes, I agree. Feeding a .308 can be expensive. I think about the video you posted a while back where you shot multiple hogs with your bolt gun. You did a great job with that rifle, and I don't believe I could've made that last shot you did and I was an aerial gunnery instructor. So, I can't help but think that a semi auto would make it easier for me to make follow up shots. I still have that old Remington 788 for when I need a bolt gun.

I thought you might approve. I went with the last one I linked to you for $100 less than the buy it now was. I ended up paying $50 less than the seller did when he bought it ( I was able to get that information by looking at his feedback from his previous transactions ), so I feel like I made out okay.
