Thank you Boris. It has literally hit Patty like a human child dying. Penny meant that much to her. And I have to admit that I broke down several times myself. She WAS our little girl. Patty's son is 37. OH and I am proud to say that he dug her grave for us, he said that is the least he could do.

My niece's dog, Wolfie, a Siberian Husky, died earlier this year and it was a blow to the whole family. Although he'd been bought for Katie he was the family dog and we all loved him. It was a horrible day and we still have little break-downs every now and then. But he was surrounded by his family and had plenty of cuddles and attention.

I'm not trying to steal sympathy, I want you to know that I understand the feeling. It's truly horrible to lose a family member like that. Wolfie was old and his body was failing. Calling the vets in was a mercy: it was the best thing to do, though nobody wanted it. He was a great dog and he made my life richer through his presence. I only hope that I did the same for him. I'm sure that Penny felt that way about you and Patty.

I'm glad that your son helped you; family is what you need in times like this. Take care.

The pain and sorrow will eventually go away and be replaced with good memories. I felt the same way when I had to have my 16 year old beagle put down. Spud will live forever in our memories. smile

Randy, sorry to hear about Penny. Sometimes it's hard to be a responsible pet owner. But she's not in pain anymore and much as it hurts you and Patty it's for the best. Again, I'm sorry.

Boris, you have my sympathy as well for loosing Wolfie.

Thank you everyone, specially you Todd, for your fb posts to Patty. She really appreciated them. We'll get over the Great hurt in time. But she was our baby, our Penny girl. Not one single day in 15 1/2 years went by that we were away from her for more than 12 hours.
