I keep a 870 behind the bedroom door and a 20 gauge shotgun in the laundry room, hid but handy. And there's always the lever guns that are sitting around. I like your preps there Todd!  ..............

The sound of a shotgun round being chambered will usually do it! That means it was sitting without one in the chamber. That's a waste of time

I've been doing a lot of thinking. Do you (meaning we or I) keep the magazine of a shotgun full or just put three or 4 shells in the magazine plus one in the chamber so the spring doesn't weaken. OR are shotgun springs like pistol mag springs and don't really take a "set" like they used to.

I always leave a little room in whatever weapon I have loaded. That said, I don't keep a round chambered except for my pistols, which are kept on "safe". Of course, we don't have any kids around, otherwise things would change.

We don't have any little kids around either, not on a regular basis. When my nephew comes up, I make sure to close the bedroom and laundry room doors and put any other pistols up where he can't get them.
