It maybe wouldn't be so bad but the caller terminated the call and I couldn't get him back on the phone.

Sometimes the deputies get jaded and think no call is important. I've seen them get a domestic call and still finish their dinner before they get up and go to the call.

It's really bad when EVERY deputy you have is out eating and no one will respond to a call.

One at a time for meal break. No eating together, and definately not both cars in a district out eating at the same time.

Probably 99 percent of the time it's no biggie to not have a deputy on after 0200 or 0300. It's the norm around here. But what really gets me is when there is the possibility someone may get shot, they should just throw on anything, grab their gear and go. It's easy to be out the door in 5 minutes.
