Just replace the top cover (body cover) with an ARMS #3, Williams Arms or DSA version and you have a rail there to do as you will (the Williams are great but getting rare as tehy have not been made in 10yrs or so). There is also a guy on FAL Files adding a rail to existing covers, they get pretty good reviews BUT he does specify they are for light weight optics like Aimpoints NOT scopes.

Just realized I never posted this here. Replacing the mb, shortening the barrel to 18 inches, and new furniture are all on the short list. Many thanks to Andy and Jeff for all the help.

Thank you!
I found it on Gunbroker for about $900, which is the going rate for what it is. Won't be able to make any changes to it until after Christmas.

And what makes it around that price? What features are desirable?

i just emailed a guy that was looking for the exact guitar i have for the exact price it would take to get mines from me. he was looking 5 months ago ans I think he found one already . if he contacts me i seriously may just stick a FAL in a case and set it right where that guitar in a case has been sitting unplayed for the last 6 years. . a FAL would certainly get some play time within the next 6 years. guitar, ehhh....

There's a guy that lives nearby that knows his way around them, he will cut and thread the barrel for me.
The rifle has an Imbel receiver, which is a good thing. Something that I really like about is that it has a metric receiver, but has a few features normally associated with inch cut receivers. Such as a folding charging handle, large mag release, extended safety, and sand cut bolt. The good things are offset by the low quality stock set and muzzle brake. The price i paid was a fair price, but no steal.
Lazi, I think if I were in your shoes I'd be finding the guitar a new home too.

I know a little more then when I first started looking. I was getting the same help you're getting now. I would say start with something that has an Imbel receiver, then decide if you want metric or inch and go from there. I honestly know nothing more about these than what I've already posted on this page.
