In an emergency they would be more reliable that's for sure. Man, I remember back when you could by the 1 pound cylinders for a dollar or less.

When I was married before I had a propane lantern when I was stationed up in Idaho. It worked pretty well and was used many a night at the Military marina at C.J. Strike reservoir.

Handy items to have as well. I have a "distribution tree" that I can mount on a 20 pound cylinder; you can have a stove and lantern going at the same time.

I also have a portable propane oven; whenever the power goes out we do NOT suffer!

My single burner propane stove is a Stansport; I also have a portable table-top propane grill.
